When making positive changes to your daily habits, the ONLY way you will be successful for the long term is to view the changes as long term.
It seems like this should go without saying but unfortunately it cannot. It needs to be said...and often; just like a habit.
In my over 10 years of coaching experience, the women who have been successful in adopting a healthy lifestyle are the ones who treat it as such. They have learned and created a healthy balance with nutrition, exercise, time management, family time, 'me time', and most importantly they've accepted that a healthy plan has no end date.
Sure we all veer off track occasionally, we are human. However, those who are locked into the mindset of their healthy lifestyle, will be able to jump back on with little or no consequence. You don't give up or stop when the going gets tough. When the going gets tough is exactly when you need your muscle the most! Don't give it up. When stress shows up, and it will, the best way to fight it is by relying on your healthy habits.
Another problem I see is when women break up the components that make up a healthy lifestyle. For example they just look at the nutrition portion, or the exercise portion or worse yet, are hyper-focused on only losing weight. You cannot be successful long term if you are doing good with only one aspect and not the other. That would be like putting a nice paint job and cool rims on a car with a bad engine. It doesn't matter how great it looks, eventually its going to break down because the foundation is lacking.
Being too restrictive with your nutrition, over-training and bottling up emotions are the recipe for disaster.
To create healthy habits you must begin with the foundation...start from the inside out. Choose best over easy. Choose smart over quick. Choose long term over short lived.
For all of you moms out there and any woman who is in a position of leadership...lead by example. Kids don't listen to what we say, they watch what we do. Are you worth watching? Are you being consistent? Are you leading by example? ~Liza xox
