While there is nothing that makes me happier than being a mom, the responsibilities of motherhood have to be balanced with other things to have a healthy and happy life. I, like many moms, have struggled to make myself a priority. I have battled with feeling selfish and guilty when wanting to pursue my goals and dreams, as if I lost that right once I became a mother. I then came to realize that I am the example to my children and unless I want my children to give up on their dreams, I can’t give up on mine. Whatever your goals and aspirations are, I encourage you to step out of the shadows and go for it. By realizing your dreams and goals, not only will you be happier; you will be teaching others, including your loved ones, to live life to the fullest.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson

We sometimes wish or pray...or both, for an easier ‘time’. Some days can be insanely overwhelming and situations might feel impossible. Over the past decade I’ve had much personal growth...emotional growth and honestly I just got to the point that I was so uncomfortable every day that something had to give. I had to make changes in my life. It took time, it took heartwork and it took lots of ‘letting go’. There will be times in our life where there are circumstances and consequences that feel so dreadfully difficult and exhausting and during these times is exactly when we must trust there is a lesson. Not everything will have a fairytale ending. Not everything will always be in our control either. That is a lesson in itself. As we push and fight our way through the darkness, we will gain renewed strength and clarity. All we can do is our personal best and once we've exhausted our efforts, it's time to accept and let go of whatever we are ALLOWING to hold us down. Yes, that IS in our control.
I can say that within my past there is not one emotion I have not felt. Happiness, joy, sadness, heartache, dread, anger, frustration, fear, shame, guilt and even loneliness...it has all run through my veins and deep into my heart and guess what...today I’m thanking God for all of it, because it’s a reminder that I have lived. This is what life is, a beautiful disaster of experiences, growth and evolvement. Just like a butterfly.
I’m embracing every emotion...whether good or bad, every decision...whether right or wrong, and every path...whether prosperous or a dead end; because all of these experiences have shaped me into the woman I am today. I wouldn’t change a thing. “This exact life” couldn’t be anymore imperfectly perfect and I love it.

Laying on my bed thinking about this...
Some women reached out prior to my Lipstick and Lunges event asking if I would be ‘recording’ it or offering a live feed...the answer was no. Lipstick and Lunges, like my Devotion Series events, are events that must be experienced in person to receive the life enriching benefit. It is not something that can be packaged, or shown on a computer screen or any device. It’s special. It’s something I fail miserably at when trying to put into words or explain. You just have to be there.
I am probably one of the least spontaneous people you will ever meet...one of those people who have a plan for everything and think things through, and then over analyzes every possible scenario...you know, a control freak ;) ...but on this day, I said to myself, “what the heck I’m just gonna go with the flow.” In the last decade I’ve traveled to Vegas countless times for photoshoots and other fitness related work so I constantly receive travel alerts with flight deals but never have I received one like this. $118 round trip! What?! Yep. How could I not take advantage?
Brook and I go way back. Our paths first crossed in the halls of middle school where we were childhood friends and remained so through our high school years. Life happened and we lost touch after our graduation in 1988. Fast forward almost 25 years later and we have reconnected through cyberspace thanks to Facebook! What is completely awesome is that we reconnected through health and fitness.
